Friday, May 15th Wilmington, NC

We are staying in a historic home bed & breakfast  It was another great b-fast.

We started our day by visiting another important historic site.  Ft Fisher was the site of a Confederate earthen fort during the Civil War.  Can you imagine building a fort from earth, much of which was sand.

Ft Fisher is at the inlet to the Cape Fear River which the Confederates used to move supplies.  Therefore the Union needed to capture it to cut off the Rebels supply line.  It took the Union two attempts but they finally captured the fort.  An interesting Civil War site.

We drove along the coast from Ft Fisher to Johnnie Mercers Fishing Pier.  We sauntered along the coast and looked at the Atlantic Ocean.  No fishing for us.

Our B&B is not too far from the Riverwalk, so we went to dinner and walked along the river.
