It's raining. The weather report last night for today was 49 degrees with rain; 10 degrees colder than yesterday. I wore 6 shirts (no lie).
We took a subway ride - sorry no pics. It's also a military installation, therefore no pics allowed. The escalators go down 300 ft - it amazing and it's fast.
We visited the town of Puskin,
named for a famous Russian writer of African ancestry. The name of the town is Pushkin or Czar's Village.
The we stood in line (queued up; I like this saying better) for Catherine's Palace - in the pouring rain. Now when you think of a line you might think of Disneyland or a bank. Get those thoughts out of your mind. If you've never been in line with Italians or Eastern Europeans, you don't know what I'm talking about.
It's a mob scene - ugly.
Catherine's Palace has the Amber Room - no pics allowed, buy a post card or book :(There were some interesting rooms and stories. Who can keep all the Nicolas, Alexanders or Catherines straight?!?! Not me.
Catherine's writing desk. It's real, but much of the palace was reconstructed due to the war and the Revolution. So it's a big deal that this survived.
A fancy room in the palace.
