Stockholm is lovely. We thought the shuttle to town was overpriced so we bought a transit ticket, for bus and subway. We figured we'd do the best we could with names like "Riksnanfikvarieambeter" and "Vasterlanggatan"....
We started out going to the Vasa Museum. I must admit, I was not that excited to see an old war ship. Even my sister-in-law (Karen) told me it was cool to see, but I did not buy it. Turns out it was amazing!
This pic hardly does "The Vasa" justice. It set sail for its maiden voyage on Aug 10, 1628 and it sank 20 mins later :0 It was found in 1959 and worked on for 17 yrs blah blah. They floated here and built this museum around it, 95% original materials.
After the Vasa we attended the Changing of the Guards at the royal palace. I found the band most interesting. It was comprised of male, female, old, young, crewcuts, dreds (but tied up), beards and/or 'stache; you get the pic.
This is Iron Boy, the tiniest of the 600 status that grace Stockholm. He honors the orphans that had to work hard loading and unloading ships in Stockholm. People make him clothes & hats, here he's wearing a scarf.
