Sat, May 3 Tokyo, Japan

Hurray, a nice day.

We had tickets to go up in the SkyTree Tower at 9:30 a.m. so we were up & at it. It was an Amazing Race task just to get to the ticket counter. Lots of people. As Tom keeps reminding me there are 37 million people in the greater Tokyo area. That’s a lot of people!

This weekend is part of Golden Week, it seems it is similar to our Memorial Day weekend but their's is 4 holidays. We heard that transportation will be busy. It is busy but what says it’s busier than normal, what do we know.

The SkyTree Tower is 634 meters tall and silver. (The orange tower is Tokyo Tower) We visited the Tembo Deck first at 350 meters (1,148 ft) with floor to ceiling windows. The view was great we could see Mt Fuji but it was hidden by clouds later. Then up to the highest we could go, without climbing a ladder, 450 m (1,476 ft).  The glass floor was on floor 340.

The elevator was fast, 600 meters/min but the day before, in Yokohama, SkyGarden was 750 m/min which is ~30 mph.

Next we walked to Tsujiki Fish Market which is where fish auctions took place.  Auctions have since been relocated but some seller still exist and now restaurants. We walked around then had lunch. We did more walking, past Tokyo Tower (orange tower) with fish pendants flying.

We visited Hama-rikyu Gardens on Tokyo Bay.  It was part of the Imperial complex but now a city park. And we visited a tiny park at the base of the Tokyo Tower.

We hung out in the Roppongi neighborhood then took a bus back to our hotel. It was fun to be above ground instead of the subway.

A few comments about random pics:  The toilet was in a separate room with a tiny sink, I tried to capture that in the pictures.  Do you know how awesome Japanese toilets are?  Heated seats, washing and drying various parts and courtesy sound (to mask any unpleasant sounds).
